Sprinkler start-ups, repairs and winterization
Every irrigation system needs to be opened in spring, kept tuned through summer and closed before the first hard freeze. We do all three, on systems we installed and on systems we did not.

Spring start-ups
We turn the water back on slowly, then run every zone and look at every head. Broken heads, clogged nozzles, leaking valves and wiring problems get fixed or flagged on the spot, and the controller gets set for the season.
Our eight-part video series below walks through a full spring opening, from the driveway to the remote app.
Videos from the Signature Services YouTube channel.
Repairs and upgrades
- Leaks, broken heads and dry spots
- We find the cause, not just the symptom, whether it is a cracked fitting, a stuck valve or a head that was never in the right place.
- Valves and manifolds
- Solenoids, valve boxes and full manifolds replaced, sometimes the same day.
- Old systems
- An older system does not always need replacing. We repair what is worth keeping and replace what is not.
- Smart controller upgrades
- A Hydrawise controller on an existing system usually cuts water use and puts the whole system on your phone.
- Re-zoning and expansions
- New beds, a new pool or a new patio mean new zones. We re-map the system so every area gets the right water.
- Mark-outs
- Before spring or fall aeration and dethatching, we flag every head so the machines miss them.
Fall winterization
Water left in the pipes freezes, expands and splits pipe, fittings and heads. To close a system we shut off and drain the supply, blow out each zone with compressed air until it runs dry, and put the controller in its off-season mode. We winterize outdoor showers too.
Book winterizations in October or early November, before the first hard freeze.
How it works
- Book your date
Call or send the form. Openings run March through May, closings October through November.
- Every zone, every head
We run each zone and check each head, valve and wire, not just the controller.
- Fix or flag
Small repairs happen on the spot. Anything bigger gets a written price before we do it.
- Set the season
The controller and sensors get set for spring and summer, or shut down for winter.

Questions about start-ups, repairs and winterization
When should I schedule my sprinkler start-up?
Most Suffolk County systems open in April, once the overnight freezes are over. Book in March to get an early date.
When should I winterize my sprinkler system?
In October or early November, before the first hard freeze. A system that freezes full of water can crack pipe, fittings and heads.
Do you service systems you did not install?
Yes. We maintain, repair and upgrade systems no matter who installed them.
Do you winterize outdoor showers too?
Yes. Outdoor showers have to be drained before the first hard freeze, and we winterize them along with sprinkler systems.
